Happy mothers day
Reality is much different than expectations isn’t it? Media gives us an unrealistic expectation about what life should be like, between the commercials put out by advertisers and our own perfectly curated and aesthetic Instagram profiles. We are really setting ourselves up for failure. Even creators and mothers set up their black coffee, laptop and writing pad to take a picture of their lovely peaceful writing times. It would be laughable if it wasn’t so sad. Me? I’m writing while blocking out my 10 year old’s video game banter, my 4 year old watching “my little pony” and my 1 year old crying while my husband tries to calm him down. I have an actual child draped across me like a throw blanket and my dog is licking my leg (it’s a chihuahua so she has quite a few nervous habits). Friday we cleaned the whole house in preparation of today and today my kitchen is a mess from my husband’s “mother’s day breakfast” and my floor is a crumby mess from my 1 year old tossing gold fish on the floor like he’s feeding imaginary indoor pigeons. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! :) I woke up to no Michael Kors or Birkin Bags, there’s no Tiffany boxes, just a few small gifts (mostly homemade) and a WHOLE LOTTA LOVE. Cheers MOMS! Let’s take today to shed this image that they give us. Let’s let go of the pretend that our kids should be perfectly behaved Rhodes Scholars, it’s okay. We’re killin it! Mom BOD and ALL.
My goodness the pressure on moms to be in this amazing hour glass shape, to have these young perky breasts, to be stomach less and stretchmark less its too much. Let’s celebrate us, not the pretend us we try to live up to! Moms, whether GIVER OF LIFE or NURTURER OF IT we are ENOUGH! We are more than enough.
And there's no way (we) can pay you back, but (the) plan
Is to show you that (we) understand; you are appreciated- 2pac
